I always thought it was kind of neat that Hot Springs held their own Oktoberfest event every year. It seems like every town has their own version now, but we’ve been celebrating it here for many years. If you read about the history of Oktoberfest in Munich it makes sense that Hot Springs has been so keen on the event for so long. The celebration that kicked off the whole thing was to honor the marriage between Kronprinz Ludwig and Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen in 1810, and horse races were a very large part of the original celebration. The decision to repeat the celebrations, horse races, and spectacle in the following years became the foundation for what has now become the world’s largest beer festival and traveling funfair. One thing I know is that Hot Springs definitely loves horse racing, funfairs, German beer and without a doubt it loves German cuisine (If you haven’t eaten at Steinhaus Keller yet, YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT YOU’RE MISSING)!
Oktoberfest in Hot Springs is going to be held at Hill Wheatley Plaza on October 13-14 this year. I can assure you that this is one event you do not want to miss! Not only will you be able to enjoy live Bavarian music, but it’s also family friendly with children’s activities included each day. While you’re there you can taste a variety of authentic German beers, wines, and cuisine. See you all there!
